From a vision to create an  integrated  aquaculture project in Nellore to introducing Vannamei in India, SIL’s story is one of steady build—farm, hatchery, feed, and processing—shaped by disciplined execution and long-term partnerships.

Founding years

1990

Farm commissioned: 250 acres developed with 150 hectares of water-spread area. Thai expertise onboarded to institute best practices.

1993

Export status: Registered as a 100% Export Oriented Unit (EOU).

1994

Hatchery launch: 200-million seed capacity. specialists engaged from Taiwan and the Philippines.

Growth

1994

IPO: Public issue oversubscribed 8x
₹22 crore equity raised.

1996

Sharat Seafoods Limited becomes Sharat Industries Limited (13 June).

1999

Shrimp feed mill commissioned.

Innovation & Expansion

Construction of the processing facility

2002

With the pilot proven and GoI approval in place, SIL advanced early commercial adoption and began exports of Vannamei.

2002–2003

Best Exporter Award (Third place), Visakhapatnam Export Processing Zone (shrimp exporter category).

2024

Three Star Export House, recognised by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry / DGFT.

2025

Became India’s largest shrimp exporter to Russia by volume
